Cougar Facilities

KAPARC
The majority of our recreation activities are based at our Kenly Area Parks and Recreation Center (KAPARC) on College Avenue.

The Cougar Facilities include:

Three baseball/softball fields
- Field 1 is the smallest of our three fields, with a 180 foot outfield fence and bases at 60, 65 and 70 feet.
- Field 2 is the largest of our three fields, with a 350 foot outfield fence and bases at 60, 65, 70, 80 and 90 feet. Field 2 has a full size baseball infield and has ground receptacles for a semi temporary 200 foot fence when required.
- Field 3 has a 300 foot outfield fence and bases at 60, 65, 70, 80 and 90 feet. It also has ground receptacles for a semi temporary 200 foot outfield fence when required.
- All three fields have portable baseball pitching mounds and softball pitching rubbers to easily be used as needed.

Two lighted batting cages complete with L Screens.
One dedicated t-ball field with a 170 foot outfield fence and 50 foot bases.

Cougar Soccer Complex
Located adjacent to the t-ball field, the Cougar Soccer Complex is a full size soccer field with an adjacent practice area.

The Cougar Den Gymnasium
Our historic Cougar Gymnasium, known as the "Cougar Den" sports two main basketball goals and four auxiliary basketball goals, adjustable from 7 foot to regulation 10 foot height, along with an in floor regulation volleyball net. During the fall and winter months, the Den is used for youth volleyball, cheerleading, basketball and indoor soccer and also for adult church based co-ed volleyball and adult church basketball leagues. Over the past two years, the Den has also served as the home gym for Star Christian Academy's high school boys basketball team.

The gym was built in 1932 and is approaching the century mark in serving the Kenly community. Originally built as part of Kenly High School, it then served Kenly Elementary School's athletic needs. Since taking over the gymnasium, the town of Kenly has embarked on multiple renovations as bleachers were removed and allowed for an expanded court size, the gym floor has been resurfaced and a "crow's nest" scorers table installed.

Walking Trail and Disc Golf Course
KAPARC also has a half-mile paved walking trail that was recently renovated in 2025 and a 9 hole disc golf course. The entire facility is lighted to accommodate evening activities and includes five sheltered picnic areas along with three charcoal park grills.

During the summer months, the baseball and softball fields at KAPARC are the host sites for various postseason tournaments such as the 2021 State Wiffle Ball Tournament, Top Gun Baseball and Softball, Johnston County Cal Ripken Sr. Division Tournament, the Babe Ruth District Three Girls Softball Tournament, and the Babe Ruth 13 Prep North Carolina State Tournament.

Parks and Recreation (Ag) Center

The Kenly Parks and Recreation Center AG Building currently serves as the town operated senior center, hosting our weekly senior club meetings and will provide for future Recreation Department programming. This facility can accommodate meetings and non-athletic programming and allows for continued growth in our recreation programs.

Community Parks

Grady Park

Located on East Second Street (Highway 222) in a historic residential neighborhood, Grady Park offers children's playground equipment and two sheltered picnic areas along with a charcoal park grill. Named in honor of Dr. J.C. Grady, community residents have enjoyed the amenities and scenic location of this park since 1976.

Lincoln Park
Located along Lincoln Drive, just a short hop off of Highway 301, Lincoln Park offers children's playground equipment, a sheltered picnic area along with a charcoal park grill.
